Sabah International Folklore Festival SIFF 2012

My first time attending this festival and ...
I'm actually really impressed!
For those of you who don't know me,
I'm abit hard to please.

Heavy rain and a massive traffic jam
certainly did not discourage the enthusiastic crowd
from attending the 7th Sabah International Folklore Festival 2012.

The performance was captivating from the very beginning.
18 countries coming together in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
to perform their traditional dances.

Always wrathed in smiles,
the performers seem to radiate confidence and absolute pride
in their cultural dance.
I was instantly infected by their enthusiasm
and had to constantly tell myself to stop smiling and bobbing my head,
"oi. I'm here to take pictures la!"

The colorful and striking traditional attire
of the many different countries are always fascinating.
And it's just alot more attention grabbing when it's worn by a hottie.
*naughty smile*

Finland

Finland

Indonesia

Korea

Timor Leste

Kuwait

Taiwan

One Malaysia dance troop

Nigeria

the Philippines

Czech Republic

Papua New Guinea
I enjoyed myself tremendously.
The crowd was obviously enjoying it alot as well
as they clapped their hands to the beat of the music.
I'm sure the performers felt appreciated and danced the best they could.

Being able to witness 18 different countries' cultural dances in one night
is an amazing and truly rare opportunity.
One that i appreciate and wont forget.

All in all, i must say,
the night at the Sabah International Folklore Festival 2012
was a major success.

Let's go together next year, pretty please?
I wanted to take pictures with the handsome 'angmohs'!
*sobs*

Heartfelt thanks to Breeze magazine for the Media Entry invite!

Foodie's Heaven : KL Style BBQ & Steamboat Restaurant

I'm soooo jealous of some of my friends that can eat a truckload of food
during a meal and not gain a single kilogram.

The worst part is when you're feeling incredibly full
(more like crazy worried about how much weight you'll gain tomorrow)
and that person decides to say :
"I'm still hungry la! Jom one more round! "

I'm pretty sure you guys would realise that RM25 isnt going to be enough
to feed that alien pig friend in a normal restaurant.

If you were in a seafood restaurant,
RM25 would probably only pay for the prawns and the steamed fish.

But what if you ONLY had RM25
and you were so hungry that you'd eat an entire cow?

Welcome to the amazing KL Style BBQ & Steamboat restaurant!

located  at Lot No. 12, Ground Floor, Damas 118 Plaza, Penampang, Sabah.
Across the highway, directly opposite KFC, Millennium Plaza

pic credits to Tom :) cuz his photos just look loads better than mine!

RM25 is all you have to pay
for a night of unlimited supply of fresh seafood,
meats of all kinds, vegetables, noodles, Nestle drinks,
Nestle ice-cream, and a whole lot of fun! :)

If you have a lot of children,
or a child that eats a lot,
then this is the perfect place to makan!
It's only RM10 for children under the age of 12!

Let your kids eat all the ice cream they want,
only after their vegetables of course ;)

It's FREE !
if your kid is below the age of 4.

You'll have a choice of sitting inside the restaurant which is air conditioned,
or enjoy the cool night air outside.

Another plus of sitting outside is you get your very own BBQ plate!

If you sit inside, you'll only be able to BBQ outside at the major huge BBQ pit,
which is crazy fun.

LOADS of choices! Hashbrowns, meatballs, fish paste, sausages...etc

They even have ready cooked meals and vegetables for the uber hungry!

Bring your Muslim friends too!
I always have a headache
when my Muslim family friends or work-related friends
decide to have dinner with me.,
not that I'm not friendly or plain lazy,
but i find it so hard to think of places to eat.

So this kinda solves all my problems! teehee!

Pot has two compartments. Choose from either chicken or tom yam soup! Yums!

Meitzeu checking out our soup!

i love seafood! <3

"MORE FOOD!"
Nath with her hash browns! -drools-

Tom with awesome ABC made by the boss!
"Y U TAKE MINE!?"
I must say,
nothing makes friendship stronger than having a great meal together.

Pretty happy with the wide range of food, drinks and desserts.
The clean and homely feel of the place.
And the genuinely helpful and friendly owners.

I do not write about food or restaurants much UNLESS
it's good and above average, definitely something special :)

VERDICT
I love this spot. Value for money, good place to try out your cooking skills
and be creative while having fun with family & friends.

*thumbs up* bloggers with the owners

Miss Earth Sabah 2012 : Press Conference

 The ultimate compliment
to any girl would definitely be
"A beauty with brains."
*pssst...guys, take note!*

Miss Earth Sabah 2011 - Olivia Vun
I've only heard of Miss Earth Sabah beauty pageant last year when my sister asked me to vote for her friend who is the current reigning Miss Earth Sabah 2011 queen - the very beautiful and brainy Ms Olivia Vun. I had the opportunity to talk to her and she was indeed an amazingly warm and down-to-earth lady. No doubt deserving her win last year.

When I was asked to attend the Press Conference of the Miss Earth Sabah 2012 at Sutera Harbour yesterday, I thought to myself :  "Urghhh.... ANOTHER beauty pageant?! "

I had an extremely bad experience with witnessing a beauty pagent and i was left disgusted and sorely disappointed. Read all about it in my previous post by clicking this  [ Link ] . But, knowing my good friend Mr Rungitom who is into alot of great quality events, i decided to face my fears and accepted the invite.

I've been to a few of Mandy Nandu Events (MNE) and i must say, good and honest work always translate to good events. This beauty pageant is definitely no exception.

The 12 Finalists of Miss Earth 2012
What i really like about this beauty pageant is that, it doesnt only focus on how pretty the young ladies are, but how much they cared about the environment, especially Sabah's environment.

It has got be a great event when you have the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun approval and support. Great job and heartiest congrats to the Organizing team!

Miss Earth Sabah aims to highly and practically educate the young girls in Sabah to help create awareness for themselves, their families and especially the community of Sabah to be more serious in saving and protecting the environment. Throughout the competition, apart from enrolling themselves in programs that emphasize strongly on environmental protections, the participants are also required to attend various environmental activities, where they are given the opportunity to practice and voice out their green thoughts and ideas. Besides that, this event also aims to showcase and promote various tourist destinations in Sabah.

sweet smiles and gorgeous hair
a thorn between the roses ..lol

beautiful green ambassadors with hearts of gold
Meeting a few of the finalists yesterday and talking to them made me feel really glad and somewhat relieved. Finally, something i have always been wishing to see at beauty pageats....beauty with brains. And of course, i love a girl with a caring heart. I'm hoping for great change and these girls can definitely help us to be more aware of issues that are close to their hearts and should also be close to ours.

With their "No Plastic Bag Challenge" that was held at Giant Hypermarket in Citymall, the twelve finalists put their skills of persuasion to the test as they try to convince as many shoppers as they can to use an eco-bag instead of a plastic bag.

An activity and event that is truly something different, interesting as well as beneficial to all. Many thanks to www.borneocolours.com for this opportunity! Love it!

Weird Resolution - COMPLETED!

i made a rather weird new year resolution
TWO (2) years ago in November 2010
that i will remain single
for an entire year.

 admit it la, people.
its so common that new year resolutions
are never kept or completed..right?

but i'm proud to say,
 "HELL YEAH. i did it!"

Alot of my friends thought i couldnt make it
through half a year..
but gimme some credit,
i lasted more than a year!
HA! TAKE THAT B*TCHES!

It wasnt easy, i met a couple of guys and we hit it off,
some were new and some were really old friends
which we had some great fun together.
to tell the truth,
i was so tempted!
urghh...

Pretty happy that i was able to keep to this promise
to myself until late January 2012.

As though they knew that
i have completed my one year of
 anti-relationship vow,
some of my closest friends started
encouraging me to get back to dating.

"What the hell for~?!"

i have just started getting used to
being happy by myself and
 being super independant *konon la*
starting to have that awesome "i-dun-need-a-man" attitude,
all i ever focus on is work, family and my closest friends.

So, just to let you know,
 i'm now dating once again.

.LOVE.
it started off awkward as hell.
being close friends since the first year of college,
dating your almost-best-friend is a huge risk.

i'm NOT a huge risk taker.
but this was one risk i have no regrets making.
for now.

we're not the perfect couple.
at least, we're trying.

so wish us luck, kays?

That guy is ....YOU?

I've heard it all before.
Women complaining about their men.
"My man doesnt warn me before he farts!"
"We dont get enough private time together!"
"I think I'm dating an immature little mama's boy."
"Men DO NOT know how to communicate their feelings la..."
"Why cant he be like Enrique Iglesias?!"
"The dude is all talk, no action!"
"The guy cant commit. Chicken shyt."

I can go on for hours.
And reveal MORE of what goes on
in a women's durrrrrty little discussion sessions
about our male partners.
But like the men, women have their own 'Bro Code'
Its called ... Sisterhood!
Or it could be called Girl Power, or Females Unite...
Or it might be the Bitch Club.
Honestly I dont know. *facepalm*
epic fail.

ANYWAY~!
Just a short list of the most common complains i've heard about the males.
If you're a girl, maybe you can add on to the list by commenting.
If you're a guy, maybe you might identify yourself with one of the following,
and hopefully you can make some changes to make your girl happy. ;)

1. The Insanely Possessive

PUH-lease la... stop smothering your girl.
constantly texting or calling us to ask
"where are you? what u doing? who you with right now?"
is such a turn off. bloody annoying..

u should learn to trust her, and if you dont,
remind me, why are you still dating her?

2. Temper Temper

maybe i hang out with girls that just will not accept
having to live their life trying to walk on eggshells
or navigate through a bloody bombmine.
He loses his temper real quick and yells the entire house down, or
decideds to try angering you as well to have a screaming match.
keep your temper in check or
go invest in a real punching bag to vent
your stress on!

3. Too Self-Obsessed and Very Vain

i personally had a boyfriend like this,
and omg... the pain of waiting for him to dress up!
He would take nearly a hour to make sure he's hair is done right,
matching belt buckles, shoes gotta match shirt, ...etc
worst part of dating this kind of guy is,
all he talks about is about how great he is,
what a stud he was in back then,
the gurls he's got then and now...

Oi~! i'm not gonna date another woman!
One woman in this relationship is enough!

4. Mr Please-Grow-Up

At some point it’s time to grow up la, guys...
Ditch the rude statement T-shirts, rockstar hair and gaming addiction!
Seriously, we just want you to dress and act maturely.
Too much to ask?

Spend QUALITY time with us.
You dont have to take us out on expensive dates, exotic getaways or
take your entire saving account to buy us that diamond ring!
(although we wouldn't mind that, of course)

Take us for a drive and make it a mission
to find out what we think about a certain topic, how was our day,
whats our favourite lingerie brand, make future plans together
or make us laugh like you used to when you were still wooing us.

Well, there is always time and a place to be childlike and have good fun,
but we girls naturally love a mature man with some sense of direction in life.
p/s : GAMING IS NOT A CAREER!

5. "LOOK At Those Boobies and that Arse!"

You may think you are being sneaky, or think girls are blind
but we caught you glancing at the hot chick as she passed by.
 Dont you dare deny it!

We know that men are visual creatures,
but it is really hurtful if we are out with you
and you can’t stop staring at that lady's amazing D-cup boobies,
or that Almost-JLo-Arse chick at the mall.
In my opinion, the worst of all is,
we catch you staring at your ex-girlfriend.
The level of hurt for this one is...
like you got your heart stepped on by an elephant.
An obese elephant.

This just TRULY bothers us and it can even ruin the entire evening.
Want us to check out other men's six packs or their package?
Did i hear a 'no'?

Refer back to Number 4 and learn to act more maturely.

6. Men are just "all talk"

Probably the biggest complaint from the females about men.
Most common example
Man : "I'll call you in a while."
Woman: "Okay."
 *waits for an entire day*
Don't woo us and tell us that you're truly ready for commitment,
then decide to freak out at the last minute.
 An even better example is
telling a woman you are ready for a relationship,
but your actions completely prove otherwise.
Why bother getting yourself in this relationship if
all you want to do after work is sit in front of the tv/computer?
And it takes you half an hour to reply us on your handphone
when we replied you almost immediately after you texted us first!

You are not Barney Stintson.
While its cool if you are almost-like him,
showering us with compliments, sweet words and gifts are acceptable
but please don't waste our time and energy by declaring your undying love.
We might do something crazy, like... believe you.

Be genuine with yourself and with us,
we would appreciate it so much and respect you a lot more.

7. Mommee's Lil Boy

I don't know how to start. Wait.
Are you going to run to mommy right after you read this?
I'm dating Y-O-U.
Not your mom, just you.
So please understand when we just feel turned off when
you invite your mom to join in on our movie date.
You wont like watching a movie with our dad seated beside you.

 8. Stone Cold

We know you would like us to think
you are such a gentleman,
always wanting to make us happy
and letting us make 'important' decision for the both of us.
"Anywhere is fine. I eat anything. I'm fine with everything.
The more the merrier, you call them la. You make the plans, I'll be there"

It just makes us think guys are no fun, uptight, dull,
takes no initiative to plan any dates, or
who never have any ideas about where to go for dinner, vacations or activities.
If you are like this,
it’s time to wake up and find your passion.
Put a little energy into the relationship.
We think this is boring and yes, it stresses us out too!
